Curt Smith ad libbed the apparently nonsensical phrase "Halargian world" in the final chorus of the song Mad World. Following much confusion, Smith later provided clarification in 2010. Halarge was an imaginary planet invented by either Chris Hughes or Ross Cullum during the recording of The Hurting. Smith added it as a joke during the lead vocal session, and they kept it in.
