Date of third entry in the diary that Carrie Crane gifts talk show host Holly Shaefer: A black day. Jeb is gone. A man I love wiped out for no good reason. I can't live with his death. I can't live with the knowledge that somehow in a manner both mysterious and unfathomable, I was responsible. This whole thing must end. I can endure no more of it. The wrong people are dying. I may be able to justify my sins but I can no longer forgive them. Dear God, after this, how do I live with myself?
