After falling in love with a portrait of famous American theater actress Elisa McKenna in the Hotel Coronado's Hall of History, TV writer Richard Collier wills himself back in time, from 1971 to 1896. He arrives in the afternoon, tracking Elisa down on a walking path near the beach. Later, he has dinner with Elise, her mother and her manager, William Fawcett Robinson. He spends the night on the extra bed in Robinson's room.
