Point Comfort
Town name on the sign at a fork in the road, along with Fort Mose. Point Comfort is the location in Hampton, Virginia where 20-30 enslaved Africans aboard the English privateer ship White Lion landed in late August, 1619. Fort Mose was the first sanctioned town of free Black people, founded by enslaved Africans who had escaped the British and passed into Spanish territory.
