As part of the covert military mission Operation Nightfall, which Senator David Palmer approved and Jack Bauer carried out, Serbian military leader Victor Drazen and his family are killed... though it is later revealed that Victor survived, that his double was killed. Two years later to the day, Victor engineers a plot to kill Jack Bauer's family while simultaneously assassinating David Palmer, now a presidential candidate.
