Cellular biology professor and former U.S. Army soldier Lena joins an expedition into Area X, where her husband previously entered and was the only member of his team to return. Also known as the Shimmer, Area X is an anomalous zone that emerged three years prior from a meteor that landed in a lighthouse in Blackwater National Park, and it is gradually expanding and increasing its boundaries.
