When programmer Alan Bradley and engineer Lora Baines discover that ENCOM's Master Control Program has closed off their access to projects, they team up with former Encom employee Kevin Flynn to break into ENCOM to unlock Alan's Tron security program. While hacking into a laboratory terminal, Encom's Master Control Program (now a powerful virtual intelligence that has been illegally appropriating personal, business, and government programs) uses an experimental laser to digitize and upload him into the ENCOM mainframe cyberspace.
